(Photo by Tim Bradbury/Getty Images)USA Today college football handicapper Danny Sheridan joined The Paul Finebaum show on Friday. He wasn’t afraid to let some interesting takes fly.His College Football Playoff field is no different. During the show, he named the four teams that he sees making it.Two will come as no surprise. Alabama and Clemson have appeared in the last three College Football Playoffs, facing off for two national championships, and last year, a semifinal.A third team is also a past Playoff participant: Washington. He likes Jake Browning to lead the Huskies to their second berth in three years. The final team would be a College Football Playoff newcomer. He likes Penn State to “smoke” Ohio State, and represent the Big Ten in the field.Early @CFBPlayoff prediction from @DannySheridan1Alabama, Clemson, Washington & Penn State— Paul Finebaum (@finebaum) June 1, 2018Every year of the College Football Playoff has featured at least one new team.Penn State would fit the bill, and it is hard to argue against the upward trajectory that the Nittany Lions have been on over the last few years. Here’s what he had to say about that Ohio State prediction:“Penn State will definitely be an underdog. They catch Ohio State at home early, in September. Ohio State figures to have their quarterback situation unsettled at that point. I think Penn State will be a slight underdog, maybe two and a half points or three, and I know that will be one my picks and I think Penn State will smoke them. They’re going to pay them back for last year. That is correct, they lost 39-38. I picked them last year to win outright. The year before that, I picked them against Ohio State. I didn’t pick them to win, they did. They covered the spread. But my point is that the last two years, Penn State has been getting better and better and this is the year they’re going to smoke Ohio State. They may lose to Michigan, but they’re going to win the Big Ten. They’ll definitely smoke Ohio State. And that’s not an insult to Ohio State. It’s just hey, welcome to parity in college football.”This would leave the Big 12 on the outside looking in. The conference has been left out twice in the first four years of the system.[ESPN]last_img read more

Cox/Getty Images)Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts took to Twitter after the Crimson Tide’s blowout win over Ole Miss to tweet a somewhat cryptic message. There has been a lot of talk about Hurts’ future at Alabama now that Tua Tagovailoa is the team’s starting quarterback. Hurts has been getting some time, but in backup duty. It’s possible that Hurts could redshirt the 2018 season, graduate this winter and transfer elsewhere for the 2019 season with two years of eligibility left. However, no one really knows what Hurts is going to do. He tweeted the following verse today:“Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand” – John 13:7 Just let God work his magic,” he wrote.Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand”– John 13:7Just let God work his magic ?— Jalen Hurts (@JalenHurts) September 16, 2018This was Hurts’ first tweet since late July.Hurts will have significant interest on the transfer market if he decides to leave Alabama, but the Crimson Tide quarterback might be content sticking it out in Tuscaloosa, Ala.Alabama, after all, appears to be on its way to another College Football Playoff berth and potential national title.last_img read more
