Wilder Gets Improved Offer to Fight Joshua

admin no comments

first_imgHe told Sky Sports: “It’s frustrating. We keep requesting these meetings and they don’t want them to take place, which is a bit strange when you’re talking about the biggest fight in world boxing – you can’t negotiate fights like this over the internet or over a telephone.“So we wrote to them after our fight with (Alexander) Povetkin and said we need to make our move soon because of mandatories in place for April 13, so could we have a meeting?“They got back and said no, we’re not interested in meeting you, make us an offer and we’ll let you know.“We went back and made a much-improved offer from the first one – this one with a percentage split – a very attractive offer and then requested a meeting, but they turned round and said ‘no, we won’t meet you’.“There’s not much we can do. It’s frustrating because we know the public wants to see that fight and are putting pressure on us and Anthony Joshua, but we are continuously making offers, we keep requesting meetings and keep getting turned down.“We will probably have to move forward with a fight before December 1, but we hoped that at least we could have a meeting so we can go face to face to discuss it.“The previous offer was accepted and we sent a contract but they didn’t respond, so this offer is much better than the previous offer.“This is an improvement on the previous offer that was accepted. But obviously, if he won his fight with (Tyson) Fury, it would increase his value in the fight and we’ve taken that into consideration.“It’s only binding if he beats Fury so we have taken that into consideration and offered him more money. I am not expecting them to sign the deal within a week or two weeks, but we have to have a meeting.”Wilder will defend his WBC title against Fury in Los Angeles on December 1, and Hearn has pencilled in that date as decisive on the chances of the American agreeing to meet Joshua in April. The promoter though, who is out in Chicago for the first Matchroom USA show, is not using it as a deadline, but again urged Wilder’s co-manager Shelly Finkel to at least meetup and discuss the improved offer face to face.Hearn said: “I understand Deontay Wilder has a fight with Tyson Fury to focus on but the job of an adviser or as a manager is to plan the future and if there is the opportunity to have an undisputed heavyweight world champions’ fight, they have the responsibility to explore that.“But they are not even willing to explore that and something doesn’t smell right. But we’ve got to go about our own business. Can we wait until after December 1? Well there’s mandatory situations as well, so it’s just frustrating we can’t even have a meeting to discuss it.“Shelly replied last night and just said we don’t want to have a meeting with you to discuss the fight, which is strange and frustrating, but we just have to carry on with our business and see what the next steps are.”Share this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegram Deontay Wilder and his team have been given a “much-improved” offer to face Anthony Joshua, but are still refusing to have a meeting, Eddie Hearn has revealed. The Matchroom promoter and his father Barry have been trying to negotiate a unification showdown between Wilder and Joshua that would take place at Wembley Stadium on April 13.Hearn Snr has already been denied a meeting and even though Eddie Hearn sent his second offer – involving more money and an updated percentage split – to Wilder’s team, he admits he has been left frustrated and suggested “something doesn’t smell right”.last_img read more

However, the three-year-old son of Tapizar was named after a fellow whose first name is Vladimir.Tom Knust, agent for Mario Gutierrez, the go-to rider for owner Paul Reddam, who has been known to challenge The Jockey Club when submitting names of horses, tells the tale.“Paul was going to fly with his wife (Zillah) on a surprise birthday trip to San Francisco for dinner,” Knust said, “so he hired a limousine to take them to the airport, and the chauffeur’s name was Vladimir. Paul took him aside and told him, ‘Don’t say ANTHING to my wife about it.It’s a surprise. Just take us to the airport and I’ll surprise her when we get there.’“But as soon as they get into the limo, the driver turns around and says, ‘In 20 minutes, we’ll be at the airport!’“Paul, completely frustrated, blurts out, ‘Blabimir!’“That’s how the horse got his name.”FINISH LINES: Congrats to Fredys Saldarriaga of nearby Duarte on winning $1,000 in Santa Anita’s Mystery Mutuel Contest. ‘French Open had moral responsibility to deny Maria Sharapova wildcard’

admin no comments

first_imgThe president of the French tennis federation (FFT) said he had a moral responsibility to deny Maria Sharapova a wildcard invitation to this month’s French Open as the sport continues its fight against doping.Bernard Giudicelli announced the decision a day after former world number one Roger Federer said he was skipping Roland Garros to focus on the grasscourt season, meaning that the French Open will start on May 28 without two of the circuit’s most commercially attractive players.Sharapova, a twice French Open champion, returned from a 15-month doping suspension last month and Giudicelli said that the Russian had needed to earn her spot on the court.”We did not want to treat Maria Sharapova differently,” Giudicelli said in a telephone news conference.”We are in talks with the tennis authorities on the plan we want to implement to fight against doping. We must have an ambitious plan, increase the number of blood tests because we know it’s a major element in the fight against doping.””Maria won twice here, but we have a huge (moral) responsibility,” Giudicelli added. The FFT president said that he felt the pressure of public opinion after the 30-year-old Sharapova was invited by organizers to play in the Madrid, Stuttgart and Rome tournaments.”I read the results of several polls and I could see that about two-thirds were in favor of Maria being granted a wildcard, of course I felt some pressure,” he explained.Sharapova’s return had divided opinion in the sport and several players had reacted angrily to the Russian being invited to those events.advertisementFormer world number one Martina Navratilova, however, had said Sharapova should now be allowed to get on with her tennis and, as a twice former champion in Paris, could justifiably be given a wildcard into the main draw.Tournament organizers had the option of giving the 2012 and 2014 champion a wildcard for the French Open’s qualifying event, but Giudicelli said this would have been “an insult to the tournament and to Maria”.The FFT president said he had tried calling Sharapova to announce his decision, but was unsuccessful. “I got straight to her answering machine three times and I left her a message,” he said.last_img read more

Army Issues RFP for Ft Campbell Solar Project

admin no comments

first_img Dan Cohen AUTHOR The Army last week released a request for proposals for a 3.1-megawatt solar array at Fort Campbell, Ky.The Army intends to procure a 27-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the array through the renewable energy multiple award task order contract small business solar pool. That acquisition will be combined with a 10-year utility energy services contract with Pennyrile Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation, according to a press release from the Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville.Pennyrile will construct a 1.9-megawatt project, providing the post with a combined 5-megawatt solar array. The cooperative is using a $3 million grant from the commonwealth of Kentucky to supplement the cost of building its portion of the array. This is the first time the Huntsville Center’s energy division will use two third-party financing contract vehicles together for a renewable energy project, according to the release. In 2014, Fort Campbell received approval for an $800,000 federal energy management program AFFECT grant from the Energy Department that will be awarded to the developer selected for the PPA. The developer can use the funds to pay down the capital investment for the 3.1-megawatt array. The installation has identified 25 acres of land formerly used as a landfill for the photovoltaic array. The contractor will finance, design, build, operate, own and maintain the renewable energy generation facility on land leased from the Army.“We’re excited to finally get this project moving,” said Jim Duttweiler, Fort Campbell’s director of public works. “When complete, this project will provide more than 10 percent of Fort Campbell’s power requirements in the form of renewable energy and move us toward energy security and independence.” last_img read more

About 60 People Rally In Houston To Demand End Of Government Shutdown

admin no comments

first_img Share About 60 people rallied Tuesday at Houston’s Johnson Space Center to demand the end of the partial shutdown of the federal government, which is directly affecting JSC employees, as well as people who work for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at local airports and other federal workers. So far, the shutdown has lasted 25 days.A potential date for the government to reopen is uncertain because President Donald Trump rejected Monday a short-term legislative fix and dug in for more combat, declaring he would “never ever back down.” On the Democrats’ side, rank-and-file House members declined an invitation to have lunch with Trump on Tuesday.Speaker Nancy Pelosi had given her blessing for lawmakers to accept the White House invitation, but White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said “unfortunately” no Democrats accepted. Some of the people who rallied in Houston work for the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).Watch a comment by Jalisa Broussard who rallied at Houston’s Johnson Space Center here:Video Playerhttps://cdn.hpm.io/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/15122704/Video-1-of-rally_Abner-Fletcher_Houston-Public-Media.mp400:0000:0000:00Use Up/Down Arrow keys to increase or decrease volume.Lloyd Van Oostenrijk works as an attorney for the EEOC, but he’s been furloughed since the shutdown started on December 22.“Not only can I not do anything,” Van Oostenrijk told News 88.7, “That means if you’re an employee and you were sexually harassed on the job, you can’t come to us and file your charge of sexual harassment because we’re not there to take it.”Justin Bautista, an electrical engineer that works for NASA and is vice president of the local chapter of the American Federation of Government Employees, told Houston Matters the situation is “very stressful.”“With no end in sight, it starts becoming more than just some, some minor inconvenience,” Bautista said.He noted one of his big concerns is not being back paid and not getting a paycheck is impacting routine payments such as his car insurance policy. Furthermore, Bautista has had to delay getting  his wisdom tooth removed because he doesn’t have the money to pay for that surgery. He also said some of his contractor friends are also concerned about what will happen when their contract runs out of money. “For example, some of them will be paid through the end of this month. But starting next month what happens to them? And, since they are contractors and they are not civil servants such as myself, there is no back pay guaranteed for them.”Asked what would be his message to lawmakers, Bautista said: “Please, let us go back to work” and added: “I would tell our lawmakers to please stop holding federal workers and the larger country hostage over some political matter. I would like to work and continue serving the American people.” – / 6last_img read more
