BCCI selection committee strength back to 5: Paranjpe, Khoda reinstated

first_imgThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors will be back in full strength as the pair of Jatin Paranjpe and Gagan Khoda have been reinstated in consultation with the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC).The pair were dropped from the selection panel as per the previous Supreme Court order for not being Test cricketers. The five member selection panel had been necessitated as per revised clause of the Supreme Court order dated October 9th which read, “Until the elections to the BCCI take place, the COA is empowered to consult with the Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising of reputed former international cricketers and to constitute a Committee of Selectors consistent with the criteria.”The now complete set of selectors will be tasked with picking India’s squad for the last two Tests. It’s unlikely that the team for the final two Tests will see too many changes, especially given the Indian team’s all round show in the third Test at Trent Bridge. The trio that form the CAC, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman too fail to pass the muster as per the new conflict of interest guidelines. But the BCCI Committee of administrators (COA) have been given a legal ‘ok’ by the Apex Court to continue with the legends till elections are held. The junior selection committee which has to meet to select the Indian under-19 team for a quadrangular tournament to prepare for the Asia Cup is also being boosted by reinforcements.Amit Sharma who had to move out as per the old order has been reinstated and another name is also being deliberated upon.advertisement”Three names have been given to the CAC and they are in the process of finalising the same. This will make the junior selection committee into a five member team as mandated by the court,” a BCCI source told India Today.last_img read more
