Fisherman remanded for shooting at City Constable

first_imgA fisherman, who was arrested days ago for trying to jump the Bourda Market fence and firing shots at a city police, was charged for the offence on Tuesday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.Kevin LeacockTwenty-five-year-old Kevin Leacock of Lot 32 David Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.The charge alleged that on August 15, 2019, at Orange Walk, Bourda, Georgetown, he discharged a loaded firearm at Brent Walcott with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or to cause grievous bodily harm.Leacock was represented by Attorney-at-Law Euclin Gomes, who told the court during his bail application that his client was not in possession of a firearm when he was arrested. He further indicated to the court that his client has another matter before the courts and he is not a flight risk.Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail being granted to the defendant based on the investigation into the matter.According to information, on the day in question, the City Constable was executing his duties, when he saw the defendant trying to scale the western fence of Bourda Market.Walcott then raised an alarm, but the defendant jumped from the fence, pulled out a firearm from his waist and allegedly fired three rounds in his direction.The virtual compliant, acting in his line of duty, returned fire in the direction of the defendant, however, he made good his escape.A few minutes later, ranks received information about the whereabouts of the defendant and went to Hadfield Street, Georgetown, where they found the defendant hiding under a bridge. He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.The Magistrate upheld the prosecutor’s submission and remanded the father of one to prison.
