Bolt on football: “I will prove them wrong”

admin no comments

first_imgTrack and field legend Usain Bolt vowed to prove detractors wrong, as he seeks to forge a successful football career at A-League outfit Central Coast Mariners.Trained with club The 32-year-old trained with the club for the first time in Australia on Tuesday after signing on for an “indefinite trial” at Mariners. He  said afterwards that the new career was something he definitely wanted.Ready to learn and get better“It’s just like track and field – the first day of training’s always the roughest one – but it felt okay,” Bolt said after the training session.“I’m not setting myself any targets. I’m just going to put in the work. I don’t know what to expect so I’m just here to push myself, learn as much as possible. For me it’s a blank slate. I’m here to learn and get better, that’s my focus.”  “Today was good, we’re taking it a step at a time, working on fitness, level by level, day by day. As long as you get fit in football, it’s relatively easy. That’s how I look at it. I don’t know yet.”He added: “I don’t want to be treated as the world’s first man. I want to be treated as a footballer because that’s what I want to be. People will say a lot of things about me, but I’ll prove them wrong.”The charismatic Jamaican won eight gold medals across three Olympics while setting multiple records, to establish himself as the greatest sprinter ever in the history of the sport.Since retiring last year, however, he has focused his attention on football, having even trained with German powerhouses Borussia Dortmund with the hope of landing a professional contract.Believes he can make it with Australian club Bolt said he had turned down opportunities in Spain and France and believes Australia is where he can make his mark in football. He noted that getting fit and making the necessary adjustments to football would be his focus in coming weeks but stressed he would not be putting himself under undue pressure.“I’ve seen as long as you are fit, it’s relatively easy with the running. As long as I get my body in shape and get some mileage [into my legs], I should be fine,” he explained.“I’m very cool under pressure, that’s one thing. My ability to understand very quickly and learn the game is very good.“I’ve expressed that I’m okay on the wing, I’m good at centre forward, but, at the end of the day, he [coach Mike Mulvey] will tell me what formation and where I’ll play.”last_img read more

When Is Lip Biting a Sign of Other Conditions?

admin no comments

first_imgSUNRISE, Florida – For many people, lip biting is just an occasional nervous habit. However, other people may chronically bite their lips due to an underlying medical condition. Here are some of the many conditions that can cause this oral habit, including dental conditions, psychological conditions and developmental disorders.Temporomandibular DisordersThe temporomandibular joint (TMJ), which connects your jawbone to your skull, is one of the most complex joints in the body. Disorders of this joint can be caused by numerous factors, such as arthritis or injuries to the jaw. People with TMJ disorders may experience many different symptoms, such as pain in the jaw joint or trouble opening and closing the mouth.A study published found that lip biting is also a common symptom of TMJ disorders, with 37 percent of the studied individuals exhibiting the habit of biting their lips or other objects.MalocclusionMalocclusion means the upper and lower teeth aren’t aligned properly. Teeth may be misaligned if your upper and lower jaws aren’t the same size. Extra teeth, abnormally shaped teeth or missing teeth are some other possible causes of misalignment. Most teeth alignment problems are minor and don’t need any treatment, although in some cases, individuals may have trouble or discomfort when biting or chewing. Repetitive lip biting in children with an existing malocclusion can impede correction of the improper alignment.Other Health ConditionsDental conditions such as a TMJ disorder and malocclusion aren’t the only possible scenarios in which individuals bite their lips. Many other health conditions can also result in this oral habit.Sometimes, psychological conditions can cause lip biting. Body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) are one of these disorders. People with BFRBs may repeatedly pull their hair, pick their skin, bite their lips or perform other repetitive actions.Individuals with autism may also have a tendency toward certain self-harm behaviors, such as biting their lips.Treatment OptionsIf you often bite your lips, or if you have a child with this habit, see a dentist. There are many treatments available based on the underlying cause. If your dentist suspects a TMJ disorder is to blame, they may suggest home remedies such as massaging the jaw muscles or limiting your diet to soft foods. If necessary, they may prescribe medications to help ease pain and inflammation in the jaw joint. Your dentist may even recommend a nightguard or splint, which is a clear plastic device that fits over your teeth, to help your jaw muscles relax. Referrals to other medical specialists, such as physiotherapists or oral surgeons, may sometimes be needed to treat TMJ disorders.Orthodontic treatment may be required to correct malocclusion and its associated issues.Your dentist may recommend braces or other orthodontic appliances to adjust the positioning of your teeth. If overcrowding is part of the malocclusion problem, one or more teeth may need to be extracted to make room. In rare cases, a patient may need surgery to reshape the jaw.Psychological and developmental causes of lip biting aren’t treated by dentists, so your dentist may recommend seeing your family doctor or an appropriate specialist. BFRBs are treated by mental health providers who specialize in these disorders, and the treatment may include identifying triggers for the behavior. Children with autism may receive treatment from a specialized provider, such as a child psychiatrist or psychologist.Rest assured that occasional lip-biting likely isn’t a problem. Chronic biting of the lips, however, can be a distressing habit. If you’re concerned about how often you’re biting your lips or notice your child has developed the habit, talk to your dentist or healthcare provider.Dr Sharon Robinson, DDS, operates the Dental Place in Plantation, Florida, with a second office-the Dental Place Cosmetix Spa in Kingston, Jamaica. Unibet falls foul with ‘sponsored’ Henderson tweet

admin no comments

first_img The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has ruled that a tweet from the account of horseracing trainer Nicky Henderson promoting one of his blogs on Unibet’s content site did not qualify as ‘editorial content’ and should have been marked as a sponsored marketing communication. The tweet, posted on 27 October, stated: “We’re underway with the jumps and my exclusive @unibet blog is now ready to read …”. A link to the blog was included.Unibet said that it didn’t believe that this breached the CAP code as it did not consider the tweet to be a marketing communication. It responded that the firm had a reciprocal arrangement with Henderson, who was its brand ambassador. That arrangement required Henderson to display Unibet branding, but did not require him to tweet on the firm’s behalf and that it did not have any editorial control over his Twitter account. However Unibet’s case was severely undermined by its actual contract with Henderson, which appears to be a generic ambassadorial one and not tailored for this particular partner. The contract stated that Unibet paid Henderson to be an ambassador for its brand and included a term that stated that one of Henderson’s obligations as brand ambassador was to allow Unibet to manage, with his assistance, his social media activity throughout the term of the agreement. The contract stated that Henderson was required to start a Twitter account that would be managed by Unibet on his behalf, though he would have the right to approve all tweets sent on that account.Unibet said these were generic contract terms and did not ‘reflect the reality’ of the partnership with Henderson as he already had an existing Twitter account before the deal was agreed. The ASA said it conducted two tests as to whether the tweet was a marketing communication or editorial content: if Unibet had an agreement with Henderson and if the operator had any degree of control over the content of the tweet. On the first point the ASA said thatUnibet and Henderson had entered into an agreement whereby the racehorse trainer acted as a brand ambassador for Unibet, involving a range of activities, including a requirement that he published a blog on social media, and that he periodically updated his social media accounts. The conclusion being that Henderson had been paid by Unibet to promote the brand, including on social media. On the second point, because Unibet required Henderson to post about his blog on social media the ASA concluded that the operator did have control over the content of tweets relating to the blog and therefore the tweet was a marketing communication and should have been obviously identifiable as such. The ASA also added: “We noted that some of Mr Henderson’s tweets that were not marketing communications would identify Unibet by tagging Unibet into the post or included references to Unibet sponsored races. On that basis, we considered that it was not clear which tweets on Mr Henderson’s account were marketing communications for Unibet. The tweets for Mr Henderson’s blog, therefore, should have been identified as such.”Unibet and Henderson have been told that they must ensure that their future marketing communications were obviously identifiable as such, for example by using an identifier such as “#ad”.More thoughts on some of our inmates, continuing with Brain Power.
